Mothering Sunday Service 10th March 2024

Led by our Mothers Union

Who We Are...

Our branch has a wide age range. Our afternoon members, tend to be older, but all ages are welcome. Our evening group typically is mainly younger people. Our meetings are a great way to make friends of a like mind. Members can be any age, women or men, married or single, but need to have been baptised a Christian. We now have a new Friends of Mothers’ Union membership which is open to all too. They are welcome to attend either or both groups.

We reach out by knitting Fiddle Muffs for local nursing homes, donating to Leeds Baby Bank, and providing Christmas shoe boxes for Samaritans Purse.

We also support Mothers' Union projects, across the Diocese of Leeds, by raising funds, such as Away From It All holidays for those who are in desperate need of a break but are not in a position to fund one. We have 2 caravans in Filey.

Last year we donated to each junior school in Garforth through our Diocesan project Books for Schools - to supply local them with key books to help children who are facing family bereavement, serious illness etc. They were greatly Appreciated.

We also support Mothers' Union around the world where groups are working to transform their communities and break free from dependency on external aid. We do this by raising money for projects such as: Literacy and Financial Education; and Parenting and Community Mobilisation. Individual Mothers' Union members support other Church groups.

We get actively involved in campaigns such as: 16 days of Activism against Gender Violence; Bye Buy Childhood; and the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.

All our work is underpinned by prayer, and we hold many special services throughout the year.
